Annual SLBR Shrimpfest Charity Dinner & Auction

Last night, the board held its 24th annual Shrimpfest charity dinner and auction. It was moved to a larger venue at Snowbird and was quite spacious as compared to previous years at the Willow Creek Country Club. Unfortunately, this made for a much louder event and I left feeling like I had been at a concert, my ears ringing and plugged for awhile. Not to mention the fact that I got home a little after midnight, so I'm a bit tired this morning. We were low in registrations by the registration deadline, but I believe that more tickets were sold directly by volunteers and even purchased at the door, so I think that it was another success, despite the rough economic year. That is the one thing you can count on REALTORS® for, to give back to the community through generous charitable donations. Coldwell Banker donated $2,000 directly to the Road Home and we had some awesome auction items that included lasik eye surgery, a 5-day cruise, martini classes, home staging certificates, and more. In addition, we had a really good dinner that consisted of grilled chicken and fish, steamed veggies, salad w/a plethora of condiments, and roasted potatoes. Out of the 7 years that I have worked for the board, I have volunteered at the event I think maybe about five years or so and I really do enjoy it. This year, things went more smoothly and the staff actually felt like we didn't do much, the volunteers had a great set up and really stepped up.

I had mixed feelings about having to drive up to Snowbird because I kind of get anxiety when I drive in the canyons, especially at night. The drive up was great, I made it from Sandy to the resort in just over a half-hour (without speeding, mind you), but the drive back was not so desirable. It started raining after dinner and continued through the night, making it difficult to know where the road lines were and there was even a small amount of fog. Thankfully, that did not last long at all. Most people either left early or stayed overnight at the lodge, so I didn't have to worry about too many drunk drivers while driving down the canyon (although my driving was not the best due to fatigue and weather conditions), but I made it home safely and that's all that really counts. Our next big charity event is our annual Kidsfest Carnival on August 8 at Wheeler Farm. I'll likely volunteer for a shift that day sometime, unless any of the other staff decides they would like the opportunity.
