Fourth of July Weekend 2009

We had a pretty easy-going weekend since Scott was still recovering from the Swine Flu and Bronchitis. Friday, we slept in and watched movies, played games, the usual and I also managed to motivate myself to work on homework. Saturday, I got up and went to the grocery store first thing to get a watermelon for Sunday's dinner to celebrate Terry's birthday and I also figured that we would treat ourselves to McDonald's breakfast since I was right by there and haven't done any grocery shopping lately. We continued to watch movies and just lounge over the weekend and then headed over to the Baker-Hymas house for a BYOD to grill. Scott and I made our favorite version of hobo dinners, which consisted of Johnsonville smoked brats, shredded cheese, potatoes, carrots, onions, and a little bit of garlic. We were smart and pre-cooked the potatoes, so we didn't have to wait a long time for them to grill. We were planning on seeing Transformers that night while everybody else was to hopefully be at the fireworks, but ended up just staying in. We may go see it this next weekend instead.

The movies we watched over the weekend were Inkheart, Kit Kitridge American Girl (well, Scott didn't watch this one), and Flyboys. Inkheart is based off a fantasy book by Cornelia Funke, part of a trilogy and one that I highly recommend for pleasure reading. The movie tanked at the box office, but I think it's worth renting if you like fantasy stories. Kit Kitdridge was cute, but also a little sad because it takes place during the Great Depression and it breaks my heart to know that so many people lost everything, kind of like what is happening today on a smaller scale. Finally, Flyboys was really good if you like war movies. It's about the Lafayette Escadrille where the first Americans volunteer to become fighter pilots during WWI before the US was officially involved, inspired by a true story. And probably best of all, it stars James Franco, LOL.

Well, that's about it these days. I started my second to last class on World Religious Traditions I. Later this week, Young Women and maybe taking my car in for an oil change.
