Good Bye Summer

Summer is over. The days are getting shorter and the weather is cooling down. It was a typical summer for us: we worked, watched a lot of movies, had a couple of visits with the in-laws. We also were graced with my sister Jenny's presence for a long weekend toward the end of August, which was filled with lots of shopping, good food, and fun at Lagoon (Utah's local amusement park). In fact, I had so much fun at Lagoon, I practically had to beg Scott to take me back this past weekend. And I don't feel guilty for splurging mostly because I had saved up money to do so, but also because I needed it. After suffering an abnormally long, annoying headache for over a month, I also found out that I have a small pituitary adenoma (that translates to benign tumor on my pituitary gland). It is likely not the cause of my headaches because it's so small, but it could be effecting other functions and I'll be consulting with an Endocrinologist in early December to check my pituitary functions. In any case, all the sleepless nights, long work days and several interruptions have been emotionally draining on me, hence the need for another fun-filled day at Lagoon.

This weekend I will attempt to go back to my norm, which starts my Saturday bright and early to get grocery shopping out of the way and maybe knock out a few household chores. You may think that 7 am is early for a Saturday, but that is luxury compared to a 4 o'clock alarm notification during the work week. We don't have children, so a mid-day nap is not out of the question either. I get stressed out when attempting to do the bulk of my grocery shopping in the afternoons, which is why I prefer to get up early. Mom and dad are driving up for a visit in the middle of October, so we'll be saving up money to do some fun things while they are here. I've decided to put our Total Money Makeover on pause for the remainder of the year in order to cash flow other much-needed items and prepare for our big shopping months in November and December. The bulk of our family birthdays are accounted for in November: my mom, my sister Jenny, our nephew Aiden, Scott's mom, and Scott. In addition to Christmas, we also celebrate Alex's birthday. We have already cash-flowed a vet procedure for our cat Cutie Pie and both Scott and I will likely need new glasses. Now don't let all this talk of responsibility fool you; I may have to act responsbible, but I certainly don't have to act my age!
