Scott talked to one of the union reps while he was at school last week and asked about the job fair notice he had received in the mail. He was told that the fair had been planned many months ago, before the economy had turned, and that the union could not get their money back on the hall that was rented. While this is a logical explanation, I still don't like the fact that potential applicants may have showed up thinking that there was work to be had, when in fact, there isn't right now. I know this was probably not the intent of the union, but I still don't like it and hope that they informed applicants that the union was only accepting applicants at this time and putting those new apprentices on the out-of-work list, after Scott! Don't get me wrong, I recognize the benefits of being a union members, from the employee perspective and the contract perspective, when there is work, the wages, benefits, work environment, and training is excellent. When there is work, that is. I know that $33 a month doesn't sound like much, but right now, that $33 will cut into our groceries. I hate this economy! There, I feel better now.
