Do Unions REALLY Look Out for their Members?

About two days after Scott was laid off, he received an announcement about an upcoming Electrician Fair being presented by the Union. Now tell me, why would somebody recruit new members to a union when their contractors do not have enough work for their existing members? It really angers me that Scott's union dues are being put toward this publishing effort and the rental of the Miller Campus at one of the community college extensions. The Board has rented that campus before and I know for a fact that it does not run cheap. So now I am wondering if it was the intent of the contractors to lay off the higher paid apprentices and journeymen so that they could bring in new electricians at lower wages, which in my opinion, does not serve the best interest of the Union members. Yet what action is the Union taking for its members who are currently out of work? Gathering names for a list of when work does become available while they squander away dues monies to recruit new members and give them the work. How very wrong!
